SMT Celebrates 30th Anniversary, Partners with Five National Organizations to Launch “STARS Co-Lab: Engineering Tomorrow,” Advancing Thai Electronics Talent and Innovation to the Global Stage

Stars Microelectronics (Thailand) Public Company Limited, or SMT, hosted the event “Stars Microelectronics 30th Anniversary: Integrated Excellence for a Sustainable Future” to celebrate its 30th anniversary, reaffirming its growth from a Thai electronic components manufacturer to a global player. The ceremony was honored by the presence of Prof. Dr. Supachai Pathumnakul, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), who presided as a witness to the official launch of the “STARS Co-Lab: Engineering Tomorrow” initiative.

 

The STARS Co-Lab: Engineering Tomorrow initiative represents a collaborative partnership among industry, government, and academic institutions. The program includes the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on science, technology, and Thai workforce development with five key partners: the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok (KMUTNB), King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL), King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT), and Mahanakorn University of Technology (MUT). The collaboration aims to advance research, technology, and Thailand’s engineering workforce in advanced engineering fields.

 

Mr. Prompong Chaikul, Chairman of the Executive Committee and Chief Executive Officer of Stars Microelectronics (Thailand) Public Company Limited, stated, “Entering SMT’s 30th year is not only a celebration of past achievements but also a new milestone in elevating Thailand’s electronics industry toward the future through our vision: Unleashing Thai Innovation. Transforming Smarter Humanity. This is supported by strategic collaborations under the concept of integrated excellence for a sustainable future.”

 

The initiative covers support for technology research across multiple areas, including joint laboratories, cooperative education programs, hands-on academic curricula with universities, and knowledge exchange with international experts. The event also featured a panel discussion titled “Integration for Sustainable Technology,” presenting perspectives on sustainable technology, next-generation workforce preparation, and the development of an innovation ecosystem that connects classrooms, research laboratories, and real industrial production environments.

 

Additionally, the event included a Networking & Innovation Showcase zone, providing opportunities for attendees to exchange ideas with SMT executives, engineers, NSTDA representatives, and partners from four universities, while exploring innovations and manufacturing capabilities supporting future electronic technologies.

 

Prof. Supachai Pathumnakul, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), Thailand commented that the “STARS Co-Lab: Engineering Tomorrow” initiative serves as an important model for integrating government, industry, and academia to develop advanced electronics talent and deep-technology innovation. The initiative aligns with Thailand’s national strategy to strengthen high-technology industries and enhance the global competitiveness of Thai professionals in a sustainable manner.
